About the event
Crafty Music workshops has been designed for children between the ages of 5-12 to participate in creating their own musical instruments, and learning how to play them. The workshops will be delivered by London Conservatoire trained musicians who are the founders of Catacoustics Music. There will be four 30 minute interactive online workshops where children would make a different instrument each week, following a step by step method, demonstrated live via the zoom platform. Following the creation of the instruments, there will be a music making activity where they get a chance to play the instrument along with us and our professional instruments. This would include call and response games, pitch and rhythmic activities designed to develop musical awareness. The workshops are designed to inspire creativity both in the format of arts and crafts, and also in music.
The instruments would be made from household waste materials:
- Guitar (String Instruments)- made from a box/elastic bands and toilet roll
- Shakers (Percussion)- made from yoghurt pots or bottles containing rice or lentils
- Panpipes (Woodwind)- Plastic/paper straws
- Drums (African Percussion)- tin cans and balloons
The workshops will follow this exact order and last a month in total across 4 weeks.
